Some military simulators with non military licenses are available too. And some with a higher nessessary investment have the blessing from the Authorities as a legal flight training device. One of the first and the most adavanced simulators some years ago was the Microsoft FSX Flight Simulator. It was the top development from Microsoft to support aeronautical enthousiasts with the possibility of simulator flying. Worldwide and in many languages.
The MS FSX simulator works today with WIN10. It is still a mesurement for other flight simulators. Prices for this software are very affordable.
At the beginning of 2021 I bought the newest and actual STEAM edition of the FSX. It works in an outstanding way compared to the original MS FSX editions. All is very smooth in flight maneuvers. No jumping screens any more. I have the impression STEAM makes an excellent job with supporting the FSX running with WIN 10 updates.
With the use of the CH Flight Sim Yoke and Pedals a sim can be placed nearly everywhere in homes of flight enthousiasts.
Hours flown with the FSX can not be loged in a real pilots logbook. We see it as an affordable activity for serious (sim-game) flying. Very similar to real flying in a real airplane. You can fly VFR and IFR, with or without flight plans, in all weather situation, and with ATC communication. In nearly all areas of our planet. Realy an international approach.
