US FAA Private Pilots (ICAO PPLA) can fly in Austria and Netherlands airplanes for private use without any restrictions or additional requirements with FAA pilot licenses and US medical class III. This regulation was always prolonged for another year in the past (as far as we know).

Selber fliegen – das ist der Inbegriff persönlicher Freiheit. Ein sehr erfolgreicher Lieder Künstler, auch Pilot 1973, hat es einmal mit seinem Lied „Über den Wolken“ auf den Punkt gebracht.
